Meaning

The continuation contains thirteen directions. It usually prints a required phrase rather than quoting the earlier error. These fragments must be read as corrections at the stated targets, not as complete independent propositions or a list of synonymous expressions.

1. Printed page 148, line 8: read quelques unes de leurs potions, “some of their potions”. The limited quantifier some is part of the correction, not a claim about every medicine.

2. Page 151, line 13: read il a fallu que par necessité. The phrase restores the stated necessity; the isolated instruction does not identify a complete earlier reading.

3. Page 163, line 10: read plus igné & subtil, “more fiery and subtle”. The comparative plus must remain visible rather than becoming an absolute definition.

4. Page 166, line 13: read par experience que quelque pureté. The supplied English takes quelque pureté concessively, “whatever purity”; the correction preserves the appeal to experience without proving the claim independently.

5. Page 184, line 7: read que cette vapeur imprime en tout. The vapour is the subject of the imprinting, and en tout retains the claim’s universal reach.

6. Page 196, line 10: read & recourir patiemment, “and patiently have recourse”. Patient recourse is a qualification of the action, not a promise of immediate success.

7. Page 210, line 11: read la race des hommes quasi esteinte avant. Quasi means almost, not wholly; avant retains the temporal relation. The supplied reading text also follows the omission of the body page’s est at this point.

8. Page 213, line 16: read mais les premiers, assavoir le Ciel & la Terre. Heaven and Earth are explicitly identified as the first; different referents should not be supplied.

9. Page 217, line 7: read les forces particulieres reconnuës par. These are particular powers recognised through the following relation, not an undifferentiated universal power.

10. Page 220, line 16: read les auroit ainsi establies. The conditional “would have established them in this way” must not become a categorical statement that the establishment occurred.

11. Page 221, first and second lines: read angeliquement esclaircy la divinité. The wording concerns an angelic manner of illuminating divinity; the isolated correction is not sufficient for a new doctrinal reconstruction.

12. Page 222, line 8: remove the question mark after edification. This changes the punctuation, not the spelling of the word. The correction is followed in the supplied reading of the surrounding passage.

13. Page 250, line 10: read à ce corps exanimé, “to this lifeless body”. The supplied note identifies examiné on the body page. That body-page evidence and the errata’s prescribed exanimé must be distinguished; the errata instruction itself prints only the replacement phrase.

Places to read

  1. Original Errata for the Treatises on Salt · Unit 2Thirteen further printed instructions correct phrases and remove one question mark across treatise pages 148–250. Their consequences include qualified quantities and comparisons, heaven and earth as first parents, angelic illumination of divinity, and the lifeless body reading exanimé. Most instructions supply a replacement without giving the complete earlier wording.
