Meaning

The cuisinier de Nature is Nature’s digestive agency, extracting and expressing a small life-bearing portion from foods so that it may join our own life. Viandes means foods generally here, not only meat; tire & exprime combines drawing out with pressing or expressing. The argument distinguishes the useful particle from the much larger corruptible admixture accompanying ordinary nourishment. It also argues that such foods alone cannot sustain the exceptional longevity being sought. The cook is therefore an explanatory metaphor for selective assimilation, not a named operator or a recipe for concentrating food into a remedy.
