Infernal Juno belongs to the imagery of descent toward the generative source. The injunction to seek the root rather than the branches directs inquiry away from derived particulars toward the matter that precedes their specification. It does not automatically identify a literal root as the sought subject.
The shining bough consecrated to infernal Juno later marks permission to enter and return from the hidden region. It yields willingly only when fate permits; force or iron cannot compel it. Root and bough therefore have distinct offices, source and authorized access, even within the same underworld imagery. Their conjunction is an argument about knowledge, not a subterranean itinerary to perform.
