“Hatched out of the mass,” hors de la masse éclos, belongs to Love’s first-person speech in the quoted Ronsard stanza. The birth image makes an emerging cosmic power speak from within the account of the world’s formation. Its “I” is therefore the poetic personification of Love, not Nuysement recounting his own origin or claiming to have witnessed creation. The transition from a confused mass to active ordering is the relevant conceptual movement; the metaphor does not identify a literal egg, animal or laboratory vessel.
