A favourable star, heavenly favour and grace name the exceptional conditions of philosophical insight. They do not exclude effort: the author can call experience itself a favourable star, joining gift with practical inquiry.
II.4.26 warns that an offered path is not possessed by everyone; celestial favour and the proper guiding thread distinguish access from mere exposure to words. Book III intensifies the exclusiveness: only children of the gods, under paternal blessing and philosophy's assistance, enter the rich cabinet. The apostrophe to philosophy then calls its beneficiaries favourites whose prayers it deigns to receive. These are rhetorical and religious figures of privileged knowledge, not a modern prediction from a birth chart or a claim that any reader can obtain an assured result.
The English keeps the restrictive ne sont concedees sinon as “granted only.” The star of experience remains a metaphor within the author's testimony, not an added astrological calculation.
