Meaning

Determined magnitude is the limit proper to a generated thing's species and form. The word determined means bounded or specified, not simply known to an observer by measurement.

I.3.1 links growth from seed to an appropriate completed size. This guards against assuming that increased vitality or the universal spirit's inexhaustibility means endless bodily enlargement. The later oak example follows the same pattern: it reaches its natural goal, then declines and participates in further generation. A species-related limit therefore coexists with the continued productivity of universal life. The concept concerns the author's teleological explanation of growth, not a numerical prediction for every individual organism.

The English preserves “according to the species and form,” the causal qualification attached to the limit. Magnitude is retained as size, not confused with moral greatness.
