Meaning

The Saturn genealogy is decoded through heaven, earth and assisting power. Cœlie and Vesta supply the celestial and terrestrial parents, while Opis, called Saturn’s sister, expresses aid or preservation in the author’s interpretation. These names organize natural offices rather than establish a universal mythological genealogy.

Vesta also appears earlier as the destination of a temple in the Poliphilus episode, where the local passage does not explicitly identify her with earth. That literary destination should not automatically inherit the later explanatory equation. The English access names Coelie, Vesta and Ops accompany the exact printed Cœlie and Opis, preserving the distinction between retrieval form and source spelling.
