shake

Meaning

Poseidon shakes the salt water (XVII.6), and Zeus shakes the divine dwelling with thunder (XIX.3). Hera's middle/passive τινασσομένη belongs to her movement amid airy whirrings (XVI.8), where being borne or shaken along is more appropriate than making her an active shaker of an omitted object. Voice and object determine the different pictures.
