ordinance-bearing

Meaning

Dionysus is explicitly the ordinance-bearer at XLII.1, together with the title narthex-bearer. The accusative masculine epithet agrees with Διόνυσον. A reader familiar with a similar title of Demeter must not transfer this occurrence to her: the local invocation names its recipient unambiguously.
