heart; inward mind

Meaning

Bakchos is asked to come with rejoicing πραπίδες (XLVII.6). The plural bodily-mental term names the inward seat of his gladness, conventionally rendered “heart.” Its use does not divide him into several hearts or establish a distinct psychological faculty beside every other mind-word.
