Meaning

Aphrodite is addressed as πολύυμνος at LV.1. In the Muses’ closing petition, however, πολύυμνον immediately qualifies the desired emulation they bring (LXXVI.12), rather than automatically naming the Muses themselves. The word concerns celebration in song, with its grammatical object supplied locally.
