Meaning
Earth, the Muses and a sacred rite are praised through rich variety. Nemesis, by contrast, hates a πολυποίκιλος speech that never stands still (LXI.4). The word’s valuation changes with its object: intricate variety can be beautiful or evasive, and “deceptive” should not be imposed on the favourable passages.
