English renderings
To shake; to brandish; to spring in movement

Meaning

Herakles brandishes a branch while driving away ruin at XII.15. Dionysos at XLVI.4 “kept shaking” danced steps through the thickets: ποτε and the narrative construction support an imperfect, not a present command to dance. The apparatus reports πάλλει against printed πάλλες, a shift that should not be used to rewrite the adopted address silently.
