Meaning

Eos’s supreme ὄψις at LXXVIII.8 is her visible presence or face, from which no one escapes. At LXXXVI.14 an ὄψις is a dream-vision that announces evil. The noun can therefore designate what appears outwardly or a visionary experience, not merely the organ called an eye.
