English renderings
To rule; to hold sway

Meaning

Nature rules across aither, earth, and sea at X.14; Leukothea rules the sea at LXXIV.3; Sabazios rules Phrygia at XLVIII.5. The expanded epic participles μεδέουσα and μεδέων express governing authority over the named spheres. “Protecting” may suit a benevolent ruler’s effect but should not erase this governing force.
