English renderings
To carry or conceive in pregnancy

Meaning

Earth carries manifold fruit through childbirth-like pains at XXVI.5. The present κύεις describes pregnancy or conception in the generative image; the English “bring forth” makes delivery more prominent than the Greek verb by itself requires. Fruit-bearing land and a woman’s childbearing are brought together without making the noun “fruit” cease to be agricultural.
