wind, roll, revolve

Meaning

The verb describes a range of turning movements: sea-creatures roll in waves (XXIV.7), Ouranos revolves spherewise around earth (IV.3), and Okeanos encircles earth in water (XI.15). Nature winds a silent foot-track (X.7), while the appended Ares turns a fiery circle (LXXXVIII.6). The object and spatial phrase distinguish these scenes; a single rotary mechanism should not be imposed on all of them.
