- hostile; an enemy
Meaning
Asclepius is an enemy of diseases at LXVII.7, while Dike is hostile to the unjust and kindly toward the just at LXII.9. Hostility is praised because of its object, not because hostility in general is desirable. The genitive identifies what is opposed and prevents the epithet from becoming an indiscriminate portrait of a wrathful deity.
