divine, illustrious

Meaning

Selene, Athena and Megaira are each called δῖα (IX.1; XXXII.2; LXIX.2). The adjective honours their divine stature without making them the same figure. The capitalized Δίῃ in LV.22 remains separately accessible because an adjective-or-place-name uncertainty affects that passage.
