Meaning
The Kouretes sway the trees along with sea and Okeanos (XXXVIII.8). Later high-crowned trees fall from their roots (XXXVIII.18), making the force of disturbance visible in the landscape. The second scene intensifies the first rather than introducing a different kind of tree.
