English renderings
heavy in spirit; fierce; heavy-hearted

Meaning

Selene is “heavy-hearted” in the edition at IX.6, whereas the thunderbolt is “heavy in wrath” at XIX.11. The compound can convey a weight or intensity of spirit, but the bolt’s force should not be translated as ordinary human sadness. Its θυμός element is less specifically wrathful than the μῆνις of βαρύμηνις.
