Water’s course is identified as its life, and freezing into ice is correspondingly described as death. The relation depends on the loss of flowing movement, not on a general denial that solid things can live, since the book assigns life to many solids. The accompanying claim about inability to drown is qualified by note 35 and must not be treated as advice about ice safety.
