Meaning

The blood paragraph describes withdrawing a watery fraction by gently tilting the vessel. Vas is the general container, unlike the more specifically named cucurbit used elsewhere. Subtilis here qualifies the movement as delicate or controlled; it need not carry all the mineral-formative sense of subtlety. Here the language of subtlety describes handling rather than a material’s invisible constituent.
