Meaning

The drink-preservation sequence assigns oil of sugar to mead, oil of ginger to vinegar and expressed oil of almonds to milk. These genitives name the bases associated with the preparations; they do not imply that all three oils are produced in an identical way or share a single modern composition. Expressum qualifies only the almond oil, adding a preparation distinction to the separate named bases.
