A treatment associated here with a reverberatory or strong furnace heat, included among means of metallic mortification. Its result depends on the material and purpose: the alchemical verdigris account requires strong treatment while expressly preventing copper plates from melting; the fixed-sulphur account follows successive white, yellow and red conditions. Reverberation names an operation whose intended effect must be distinguished from indiscriminate melting or burning.
