Meaning

In the plant-distillation discussion locustae are grouped with trees and stalks and later with branches, supporting the edition’s “shoots.” In the hand-reading definition locustis occurs beside lines and wrinkles and is rendered “joints.” The same printed family thus requires contextual interpretation; mechanically translating it as the insect “locust” would make both passages misleading.
