Meaning

Death is an enemy in the preservation introduction, threatening body, health, medicine and natural things. In Book 1 putrefaction is called the death and destruction of first essence from which new generation emerges. The vocabulary therefore changes value with the object and purpose of the argument. Death of an earlier material condition can be productive in transformation, while death or loss of a useful attained condition is resisted in preservation.
