The beer paragraph names oil of cloves and then prefers oil of blessed avens. Similar-looking historical words do not make these one plant: the edition explicitly distinguishes avens from cloves. The shorter Benedictae in the following sentence refers back to the avens name. Retaining both the printed spelling variants and the English distinctions prevents the recipe-like comparison from losing its stated preference between two different preparations.
