Three bodily materials with deliberately differentiated life descriptions. Bones live through liquor of mummia; flesh and blood through spirit of salt, which prevents stench and putrefaction. The mortification catalogue preserves that separation by naming calcination for bones and removal of spirit of salt for flesh and blood. Treating them all as generic body matter would lose the argument’s local specificity.
