Meaning

A bird’s beak and claws are said to disclose age to an experienced fowler; eruptions on pigs’ tongues are said to reveal bodily impurity. These examples differ in object and inference, age versus illness. They extend natural signature beyond humans, but they should not be converted into exact modern animal-age rules or sufficient veterinary and food-safety tests.
