Meaning

The quicksilver paragraph prints malagma for the product it allegedly makes from metals it attacks and dissolves. The salts paragraph later uses amalgama for what salts become when improperly stored. The edition renders the former as amalgam, but the two local contexts should not be flattened into a fully standardized modern composition. Malagma and amalgama are related forms, but their contexts describe different materials and proposed transformations.
