Sophistications

Meaning

Form.

The author applies this term to deceptive or misdirected operations pursued after unguided work fails. Examples include whitening, reddening, fixing silver and misusing an extracted metallic soul. He nevertheless accepts purification and extraction for the philosophers’ work when followed by restoration to the proper body. The target is therefore an erroneous purpose and method, not every process sharing the same verbal label.
