Meaning

Form.

Serpents provide the mistaken bridge from picture to procedure. Because the phantom says serpents are conjured and Mercury is depicted with serpents, the alchemist substitutes Mercury’s name into a charm. The source does not explain the icon as an effective laboratory instruction. Its role is to display the worker’s literal transfer of an image without understanding the kind of relation the image represents.
