Second-born

Meaning

Phrase.

Saturn says sulphur is second-born yet older than all, strong and worthier yet an obedient child. The paradox retains its place among the principles while attributing seniority and power in another respect. It should not be flattened into a straightforward chronological genealogy. The surrounding family language includes mother, brothers and sister, and operates as an allegory of related natural powers.
