- oil of sulphur
Meaning
Phrase.
The alchemist boasts that he can prepare oil of sulphur and then asks whether this is sulphur’s blood. Saturn’s ironic praise and correction reveal a mistaken identification. The passage is evidence about an interpretive error, not a recipe endorsed as the philosophical medicine. Its place in the failed worker’s repertoire should be preserved whenever the term is indexed.
