French invokes this chapter as his example of God correcting Job through principles of Nature and producing knowledge of God and self. This is his scriptural appeal in the 1650 commendation. It should not be confused with the earlier corpus’s closing excerpt headed Job 28. The difference in reference and rhetorical function is essential to keeping the later reception voice distinct.
