His homeland

Meaning

Phrase.

The homeland is the place toward which every traveller tends in Mercury’s answer about ascent with fire. On reaching the place of origin, the traveller rests and later returns wiser. This spatial account also carries a developmental comparison. The text gives no geographic identification or apparatus diagram; its function is to explain motion through origin, rest and altered return.
