- gehenna; infernal fire
Meaning
Form.
The impure unctuous portion of fire enclosed at earth’s centre is called gehenna. Its assigned role is to continue the operation of motion, while purer portions belong to higher cosmic regions. The terminology combines physical and theological registers. It does not make every mention of central fire a literal description of the afterlife, nor does it modernize into a theory of the earth’s core.
