Furnace vents

Meaning

Form.

Alchemists are said to regulate degrees of fire through the amount of air and to arrange their registra accordingly. The supplied English interprets the term as furnace vents. This example supports air’s indispensable role in maintaining fire, alongside the broader examples of respiration and fresh water. It is evidence of the author’s explanatory analogy, not a detailed or safe instruction for operating a furnace.
