Meaning

Form.

The printed neuter plural describes common metals, particularly common gold, whose generative point should not be sought through the mistaken procedures under attack. The same passage says melting fire is metals’ death while fire in their ores is life. Dead therefore belongs to the author’s seed-and-spirit distinction; it is not merely an ordinary statement that minerals are unlike living organisms.
