Meaning
A manifestation is an appearance, activity, or developed form of an underlying reality. The term lets the author speak about many kinds of phenomena while keeping their source singular.
Use in the book
In IV the changing forms of experience are outward manifestations of a supposed substantial reality. VII narrates their production as an outpouring of divine energy. VIII groups degrees of life manifestation into planes, so that a division into categories need not imply a division into independent substances.
The principles themselves also manifest: gender appears as sex on one level and as mental generation on another, while rhythm is identified in cosmic cycles and moods. The same verb thus connects a source with its effects and a general principle with its instances.

In this edition
Manifestation is retained rather than systematically replaced by appearance, because it can name an effective activity as well as an outward look.
Reading the argument
The vocabulary provides coherence, but the use of one word does not demonstrate one mechanism across all the cases. The relation between a principle and its alleged instance still has to be established in each application.
