Meaning

The positive Golden Rule appears on p. 154 in the account of wealthy stewardship. What one would have done to oneself is to be done to another; the phrase specifies a duty to act, not simply a prohibition on injury.

Use in the book

Khunrath places it within the reckoning for God's entrusted money. The question is whether the recipient has served God, the needy neighbour and his own household Christianly. The margin repeats that last qualification. Reciprocity is therefore applied to practical assistance, including money and other help, rather than left as a generalized moral ornament.

The setting also prevents an overly narrow reading in which the rule means only financing the author's Art. The preceding argument advocates costly natural inquiry, but this sentence names the neighbour in need more broadly. The same opening ethic of the treatise values one's own and the neighbour's welfare beside God's honour.

The supplied note identifies Matthew 7:12 and contrasts the positive form with a familiar negative maxim. The Latin wording is primary; the reference is not printed beside it.

Translation in this edition

Keep the positive construction. Recasting it as merely “do no harm” would weaken the active service required in the paragraph.

Source note

The rule is not used here to calculate an equal exchange or authorize repayment. It is the measure for responsible help from what has been entrusted.
