Historical definition
Similitudines are called celestial appearances.
Meaning
The dictionary applies the plural name to appearances belonging to the heavens. It does not say whether every such appearance is a spirit, a sign, or a material effect.
Use in the book
Compare Visio, defined as a supernatural apparition of spirits seen by people. Both entries concern appearance, but the latter specifies spirits and a human observer in a way this short gloss does not.
