Historical definition
Redue is a powder by which calcined metals and minerals are melted.
Meaning
The powder is defined through its use with matter that has already undergone calcination. The order matters: the entry starts from a calx or calcined material and describes its subsequent melting. It does not supply the powder’s ingredients.
Use in the book
Compare Regulus, which names a purified metallic part, and Regale, which names a cement for purifying gold. These terms distinguish an assisting material, a purifying medium and a separated product.
