Historical definition
Aromata are all things that yield a sweet and pleasing smell.
Meaning
The plural gathers materials by an attributed sensory quality. It does not specify one botanical family, one imported spice or a single preparation. A passage using Aromata may later narrow the class with particular ingredients, but that detail is not built into the headword.
The definition is useful beside Odorifera because both concern smell vocabulary. A reader should still attend to whether a writer is classifying a substance by its ordinary scent or describing a change in scent during preparation. The term by itself names the quality, not its cause.
