- thoughts as exhalations.
Meaning
The compact phrase identifies the soul’s exhalations with its thoughts. It appears in a question about how the corrupted soul and what it breathes out would taste in God’s sweet mouth. The imagined divine rejection makes inward thought answerable for the condition from which it proceeds. “Exhalations” here is not merely a synonym for laboratory vapours: it joins the text’s wider pattern of breath, nourishment, inward movement and spiritual judgement.
