Meaning

The seven-word Latin inscription on the historical engraving yields VITRIOL from its initials. The source’s prose interprets the words in the circle as the matter’s proper name, vitriol. The inscription is visual evidence supplied by the edition’s figure and verified against its figure guide and note n92; it is not an exact phrase from the German passage 14 transcription. No extra ending words for VITRIOLUM occur in this engraving. The acrostic explains a naming claim rather than proving a modern chemical identity. Interiora names the inward parts; rectificando means by rectifying; occultum lapidem is the hidden stone to be found. These are grammatical and lexical explanations, not practical instructions.
