Meaning

The prose following the poem is its own interpretive key. Neptune is salt, Venus vitriol, the serpent mercury, and Bacchus tartar; Mars receives a warrior comparison. These assignments are not interchangeable with a universal chart equating every deity to a single modern metal. The shift from compressed verse to explicit explanation is itself part of the testament’s teaching method. The self-gloss is used for meanings and relations, never to reconstruct the operational explosive passage deliberately omitted earlier.

Reading note

Diotimos edition clarification. This companion refers to an earlier version of the edition. The current book includes the restored Testament passages on the 1682 witness’s pages 76–77; the companion’s references to an omission notice describe that earlier version.
