- sustaining word.
Meaning
The inflected phrase names God’s word as presently sustaining the created order. It drives the universal nature- or salt-spirit to maintain and move the works formerly made through a particular creation. The contrast is temporal and causal: original making is not the same act as ongoing maintenance. This sentence limits the preceding declaration of one common natural power and should not be omitted when explaining its range.
