correcting agent, thing corrected.

Meaning

Corrigens is the correcting agent; Corrigendum is what is to be corrected. The narrator’s medical argument requires the former’s finest essence to enter the latter at its root and unite inseparably with it. From the supposed efficacy of mineral medicines in human bodies he infers a shared natural essence across kingdoms. The terms are relational roles in that reasoning, not names of particular medicines. The asserted correction and union are historical theory, not a verified treatment recommendation.
